Question:

Virtues of the Khulafa Rashideen

Answer:

Bismillah

Saaiduna Ibn Abbas raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) narrates, the Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) in his fatal illness came out with a piece of cloth tied round his head and sat on the pulpit. After thanking and praising Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) he said; “There is no one who had done more favour to me with life and property than Abu Bakr Bin Abi Quhafa. If I were to take a Khalil, I would certainly have taken Abu Bakr but the Islamic brotherhood is superior. Close all the small doors in this mosque except that of Abu Bakr.” (Sahih Bukhari p.516 v.1)

In a lengthy hadith narrated by Saaduna Ibn Abbas raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him), that once a man behind me put his elbow on my shoulder and was saying, “Allah have mercy on you! I hope Allah may place you along with your two companions, because I often heard the Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) say; “I, Abu Bakr and Umar were…” “I, Abu Bakr and Umar did…”, “ I, Abu Bakr and Umar went off…” “ I, Abu Bakr and Umar entered…” “I, Abu Bakr and Umar went out…” Saaiduna Ibn Abbas Radiallahu Anhu said that when he turned round, he saw it was Saaiduna Ali raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him). (Sahih Bukhari p.520 v.1)

Saaidah Aisha raḍyAllāhu 'anha (may Allāh be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) was lying in his house with (parts of) his leg uncovered when Saaiduna Abu Bakr raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) asked permission to enter and he gave him permission while he was in that condition and conversed. Saaiduna Umar raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) asked permission to enter he gave him permission while he was like that and he conversed. Then Saaiduna Uthman raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) asked permission to enter and he the Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) sat up and arranged his clothing, when he went out Saaidah Aisha raḍyAllāhu 'anha (may Allāh be pleased with her) said; “Saaiduna Abu Bakr raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) entered and you did not stir for him or worry about him; then Saaiduna Umar raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) entered and you did not stir for him or worry about him; then Saaiduna Uthman Radiallahu Anhu entered and you sat up and arranged your clothing.” He replied, “Shall I not be modest with one towards whom the angels are modest?” (Sahih Muslim p.277 v.2)

Saaiduna Sad in Abi Waaqas raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) set out for tabuk, appointing Saaiduna Ali raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) as his deputy (In Madina). Saaiduna Ali raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) said, “Do you want to leave me with the children and women?” The Prophet of Allah said “Will you not be pleased that you will be to me like Harun Alayhis Salam to Musa Alayhis Salam? But there will be no Prophet after me.” (Sahih Bukhari p.526 v.1)
