Question:

Who was the first nabi sent against Shirk?

Can a Nabi commit sin before Nabuwwah?

What was the religion of the Anbiyaa before they were given Nabuwwah?

Answer 1:

From books of history and Tafseer we learn that the first prophet to deal with Shirk was SayyidnaNoohAlaihi salaam.

Mufti ShafiRahmatullahiAlaihi writes under the commentary of verses 14-18 in SuratulAnkaboot:

“Among the earlier prophets, the story of SayyidnaNoohAlaihisallam was related first. It was so because he was the very first prophet who had to confront with the infidelity and association of others with Allah . (Ma’ariful Quran p.688 v.6, also see Story of the Prophets v.2)

Answer 2:

“Allah has protected Prophets from All sins.” They are the people whom Allah has guided, so follow their guidance” (Surah Anaam verse 90)

“All prophets are safeguarded from minor and major sins, they are also protected from Kufr and any act of indecency, whether it be before their prophet hood or after. This is the opinion of the AhleSunnahWalJamaah. (FataawahMahmoodiyyah p.411 v.1, FataawahUthmaani p.67 v.1, UmdatulFiqh p.23 v.1)

Answer 3:

“Truly the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam” (Surah Al Imran verse190)

“He Allah named you as Muslims both before and in this Quran” (22:78)

 “Allah made you follow the same religion with which he bound NoohAlaihis salaam (and other prophets)” (42:13)

This tells us that the deen of all our blessed prophets was one and the same, that is, belief in the most perfect being and attributes of Allah , in his being free of all shortcomings and that he alone is worthy of worship, believing in this from the depth of one’s heart and confirming it verbally. (Ma’ariful Quran p.44 v.2&FatawahMahmoodiyyah p.414 v.)

With regards to before prophet hood all that can be said from the above information is that they were all guided on the straight path by Allah  (and they all believed in the oneness of Allah), as they were free and safeguarded from all sorts of sin.
