Question:

Today I went to the doctor in order to get my medical certificate since I'm preparing to apply in Madinah University. In this medical certificate the university asks to state the health of the student’s body his sight, his hearing etc. I'm currently having pills because I had my iron a little low. I insisted the doctor if I would had to include this treatment and he said to me that it is not necessary to include it since in other countries it is not considered an illness and even if he puts it, it may cause problems and the university perhaps asks me what are this pills and what is this and that. The doctor put in my medical certificate that I do not have ANY illness or disease within my body. Is this a lie or cheating? Did I do haram?

Answer:

Bismillah

If you’re taking Iron for a long term illness then it needs to be reported to the University for Islamic reasons as well as health reasons. It may be worth seeking a second opinion from a different doctor because of the change in climate environment and atmosphere. It is impermissible to put yourself in a vulnerable position knowingly.

If you have health issues then studying locally or nationally is also an option. The Esteemed Hadhrat Mufti Mohammed Tosir Miah(May Allah Ta’ala preserve him) is a shining example of a Scholar who studied nationally at Darul Uloom Al-Arabiyyah Al-Islaamiyyah Bury.
