Question:

Salaam alaikum

I'm living with my wife to be, her parents know who I am but I have not paid mahar yet.

Can I fast the month of ramadan and the way I earn my income is not that good I am a dj. please I need your help

Answer:

Bismillah

If you are living with her without having a nikah, then you must cease to do so as cohabitation with a non-Mahram woman outside marriage is forbidden. Her parents being aware of it does not make it lawful.

However, if you have conducted the nikah with proposal and acceptance in the presence of two adult witnesses, and you simply are yet to pay the dowry, then you are not considered sinful for living with her.

Nevertheless, fasting in Ramadan is obligatory regardless of your living situation and occupation.

And only Allah knows best.
