Question:

A baby boy has been born and the family would like to do aqiqah of one sheep in the UK and the other sheep a few months later in Bangladesh

Would this method fulfil the right of aqiqah?

Answer:

It is Mustahab on the 7th day to name a newborn child, shave his head, weigh the hair, give it’s equivalent in silver or gold in charity, and slaughter an animal (Raddul Mukhtaar, Vol 9, Pg 485). It would be permissible to slaughter 1 sheep in the UK and another in Bangladesh.

يسْتَحَبُّ لِمَنْ وُلِدَ لَهُ وَلَدٌ أَنْ يُسَمِّيَهُ يَوْمَ أُسْبُوعِهِ وَيَحْلِقَ رَأْسَهُ وَيَتَصَدَّقَ عِنْدَ الْأَئِمَّةِ الثَّلَاثَةِ بِزِنَةِ شَعْرِهِ فِضَّةً أَوْ ذَهَبًا ثُمَّ يَعِقُّ عِنْدَ الْحَلْقِ عَقِيقَةً إبَاحَةً عَلَى مَا فِي الْجَامِعِ الْمَحْبُوبِيِّ، أَوْ تَطَوُّعًا عَلَى مَا فِي شَرْحِ الطَّحَاوِيِّ، وَهِيَ شَاةٌ تَصْلُحُ لِلْأُضْحِيَّةِ تُذْبَحُ لِلذَّكَرِ وَالْأُنْثَى سَوَاءٌ فَرَّقَ لَحْمَهَا نِيئًا أَوْ طَبَخَهُ بِحُمُوضَةٍ أَوْ بِدُونِهَا مَعَ كَسْرِ عَظْمِهَا أَوْ لَا وَاِتِّخَاذِ دَعْوَةٍ أَوْ لَا، وَبِهِ قَالَ مَالِكٌ. وَسَنَّهَا الشَّافِعِيُّ وَأَحْمَدُ سُنَّةً مُؤَكَّدَةً شَاتَانِ عَنْ الْغُلَامِ وَشَاةٌ عَنْ الْجَارِيَةِ غُرَرُ الْأَفْكَارِ مُلَخَّصًا، وَاَللَّهُ تَعَالَى أَعْلَمُ.
