Question:

Salaam, my 10 yr old daughter has recently started her period, but she is having it continually. As she is only halfway through learning the Quran, I need to know if I can teach her during the days she is impure.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

The maximum amount of time that a period can last is ten days and ten nights, any bleeding experienced beyond ten days is known as irregular bleeding (Istihadha).[1]

In order to distinguish between what is period bleeding and what is Istihadha you would refer back to the normal duration of her periods prior to the irregular bleeding.

If she has not had a period prior to the irregular bleeding, then her period will be ten days long every month and the rest of the month she will be considered to be in a state of Istihadha.[2]

A person in Istihadha will make Wudhu for every Salaat. her Wudhu will remain for the entirety of that Salaah’s time and she is allowed to pray, read Quran and do other acts of worship with that Wudhu.
