Question:

 

Any Sareeh Ibarat from our Arabic books that Maghrib Salaah can be delayed in Ramadhan for Iftaar?

 

 

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

 

Answer

 

It is permissible to delay the Maghrib Salaah for a short amount of time for Iftaar.

 

As for Sareeh Ibarat:

 

It is mentioned in al-Durrul Mukhtar:

 

(و) – لو – أخر (المغرب إلى اشتباك النجوم) أي كثرتها كره أي التاخير لا الفعل ؛ لأنه مأمور به (تحريماً) إلا بعذر كسفر ، وكونه على أكل

 

It is explained in Raddul Muhtar:

 

(قوله: وكونه على أكل) أي لكراهة الصلاة مع حضور طعام تميل إليه نفسه ولحديث – إذا أقيمت الصلاة وحضر العشاء فابدءوا بالعشاء) رواه الشيخان¹

 

Maghrib Salaah has a specific duration and the prayer is valid throughout that duration. It is preferable to pray Maghrib in its early time² unless it is a cloudy day in which case it is better to delay it³.
