Question:
Asalamualaikum
Are there 7 heavens (as it is stated within the Quran)?
Or are there 8 heavens?
Since I have heard scholars say this during their lectures.
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Answer:
Walaikumusalam
Allāh SWT says: “It is Allah who has created seven heavens and of the earth the like thereof (i.e. seven). His Command descends between them (heavens and earth), that you may know that Allah has power over all things and that Allah surrounds (comprehends) all things in (His) Knowledge.”[1]
There are therefore seven heavens, one may refer to the relevant tafāsīr (exegesis) for clarification of their meaning.
