Arriving Jeddah Without Ihraam

Question:

I plan on travelling from the UK for Umrah, later this year, with a young family inshaAllah.  From the UK, I always tend to go straight from Jeddah to Makkah and carry out Umrah the same evening, but in this instance, the plane arrives late at night and it will be difficult to do Umrah so late with sleepy children.

I was thinking of going to Madinah first this time, via Jeddah, as that’s where the plane lands.

Two questions please:

  1. Is it acceptable to arrive at Jeddah Airport and go to Madinah first (and thus not be in the state of Ihram from the Miqat point on the plane)? A few days later we would then go to Makkah for Umrah.

  1. Is it acceptable to stay overnight in Jeddah when we arrive and then go to Madinah the next day (and thus not be in the state of Ihram from the Miqat point on the plane)?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

It is not permissible to pass the Miqat without Ihram (Fatawa Hindiyyah, Vol 1, Pg 244). Whichever of the scenarios you choose, you should wear the Ihram at the Miqat point, and remain in the state of Ihram until you have completed Umrah, even if you do not do so straight away.
