Attending the funeral ceremony of a non-Muslim
In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.
Answer
It is permissible to attend a funeral of a non-Muslim parent, relative, neighbour or colleague. However, it is not permissible to attend a religious funeral ceremony where they will be praying or singing hymns for the non-Muslim. This is because it is unlawful for Muslims to pray for non-Muslims.
In the text of Bahrur Raiq it says ‘And one may follow their (non-Muslim) funeral from afar (p.205 v.2). From this text it is indicating that you can attend their funeral but you should not be taking an active part in it hence, it will be best to avoid carrying a non-Muslims coffin.
