After burial of the deceased some people give Azan on the grave, they say "It comforts the dead in the horrid loneliness of grave", is the calling of the Azan permissible without thinking of it as compulsory and is this proven from sunnah, the sahabah or any of the Imams?

Answer
It is not established from any authentic ahadith that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam, the Companions or their Predecessors ever doing such a thing. (Imdadul Fatawa p.301 –p.302 v.5)
Allamah Ibn Abideen Shami (RA) states, “…to give Azaan at the graveside as many people are habituated to nowadays is not Sunnat. Imam Ibn Hajar Al Haithami has explicitly stated in his Fatawa that it is a bidah to give Azaan at the graveside.” (Raddul Muhtar p.141 v.3)
