Question:
Assalamualikum,
Dear All.
I am planning to give an Islamic name to my baby girl. So, I find on some websites and I found (Aleena). Website said this means Silk of heaven but some of my friends are keep telling me that is not true. Kindly let me know that is true or not? JazakallahKhair.
Answer:
The word Aleena is derived from the Arabic root letters ‘Laam, yaa, noon’, which means to be soft.
(MisbaahulLughaat, Page 801).
In regards to the word itself meaning ‘silk of heaven’, no such interpretation can be found in authentic Islamic books, nor Arabic dictionaries. It is highly possible that this meaning has been derived from a non-Islamic or non-Arabic source i.e. from another language
Nonetheless, the word itself carries a good meaning, therefore it can be kept as a name.
Only Allah knows best.
