Question:
My sister is getting married soon and we plan on doing all the events in the proper Sunnah manner. However, I wanted to throw her a bridal party because everything else will be done with simplicity and since in the Sunnah, the girl's side don't really have a party, I wanted to give that to her. It's not a bridal shower. It will be just a get-together with some of her friends, some of mine, close relatives and a few of her in-laws.There will be no requirement to bring gifts. I'll be arranging everything from snacks to a few games and such. My question is, is this party against the Sunnah in any way? My father isn't in favor of it
because he says if it's not in the Sunnah, we shouldn't be doing it. But is it wrong to hold such a party? And if it isn't, how can I convince my father?
Answer:
A bridal party before the nikaah takes place is not from the customs of Muslims (aap ke massail aur un ka hal vol6 p314). The more simple and closer to Sunnah the Nikaah, the more blessing in the Nikaah.
Sayyida A’isha narrates that the Messenger of Allah said: “The most blessed marriage (nikah) is the one with the least expenses.” (al-Bayhaqi in his Shu’ab al-Iman & Mishkat al-Masabih).
