Question
Is it permissible to buy halaal products from companies that make halaal and haraam products? Unilever and PNG are global giants that then own firms such as Dove and Vaseline etc they use animal derivatives in their products (beef and pork). Then the companies such as dove and Vaseline further have manufacturers in Muslim countries manufacturing halal products and in non-Muslim countries manufacturers make some halal products and then haram products.
I don’t know how the funds/earnings are shared amongst these companies and then their parent’s companies so is it ok if we’re only buying the halaal products? Or we should check whether the majority earning of there is from halaal sources or not as this is difficult to check.

Answer:
Soap, which is made from animal fat is permissible to use on the body regardless of whether the ingredients are obtained from a halal animal or haram animal. Any food item in which the ingredients are derived from haram animals or from halal animals which are not slaughtered according to shariah is not permissible to consume. The difference between soap and food items is, soap is for external use and food is for internal consumption. (Raddul Muhtar p.316 v.1)
Regarding your question, it would be permissible to use products from the above companies regardless of their use of halal or haram products.
