Question:
I’m on a 17-hour flight going west from Los Angeles to Singapore
We left on Sept 8th at 11:50 pm (LA time) so we prayed Isha before we left
We will land InshaAllah in Singapore on Sept 10th at 8 am (sunrise is at 7 am on Sept 10th in Singapore). We spend Sept 9th on the plane.
So we have to pray 5 salah for Sept 9th and Fajr for Sept 10th on the plane before we land. But there’s no daylight as we are going with the night and the sunrise is behind us. We get daylight at the end of our flight.
So do I just pray based on the general timings/calculations of what Salah timings would approximately be? This is a new masalah that I’ve never experienced and the halal flight app/website doesn’t give you any info (gives an error since it’s not possible to use the sun for salah)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
Since you’re unable to rely on the sun’s position due to the nature of your flight, you’ll need to estimate the prayer times for a normal day and pray accordingly.
Only Allah knows best.
