Question:

I am working as a doctor in UK. We are supposed to do cremation forms for some of the deceased. Afterwards we are paid from the fee taken from the relatives/other unknown source. Our job is to verify death and to make sure there is no pacemaker or any other device. In most of the cases cremation is in accordance to the wish of the deceased. Is the fee Halal?

Answer:

Bismillah

If you are the main and direct cause for a sin (meaning if the cause would not have been present, there was no reason for the sin to occur), it will be unlawful (haram) otherwise it will be disliked (makruh).” (Radd al-Muhtar)

In this instance it would not be Makruh either because your job is a totally separate department that deals with a separate issue, which is to verify death and make sure there is no pacemaker or any other device.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best
