Question:

One masjid in my community pitched a tent in the parking lot of the masjid for Isha/Taraweeh, can a mu’takif come out of the masjid and perform Taraweeh salah there?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

There are three conditions for the Itikaf to be considered valid.

They are:

• The Itikaf is done in such a Masjid where the five daily prayers with the congregation take place.
• The intention is made to stay in the Masjid.
• To be free from major impurities such as from Janabah, menstruation blood, and nifaas (post-natal bleeding). [1]

A temporary extension where only certain prayers are performed fails to fulfil the first condition. So, one who is in Itikaf should not come out to perform Salaat there.
