Question:

Can baby boys model? And if so up to what age? Also, is it allowed to take out a loan to buy a house?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Modelling contains a number of Haraam elements. Firstly, it involves picture taking, which is a disputed topic amongst scholars. Secondly, it sometimes involves unveiling one’s nakedness (Awrah). Thirdly, it encourages an unnecessary, and often harmful, view of personal looks, which can affect children’s emotional well-being.

Therefore, to protect the child’s religion and mental and emotional health, it would be Haraam for children to model.

Loan to buy a house

Interest-based loans are not permissible.

Allah says regarding interest:

“O believers! Do not consume interest, multiplying it many times over. And be mindful of Allah, so you may prosper.” (Qur’aan, 3:130)

Loans that are taken to purchase a home are usually interest-based. If the loan you intend to take is interest-free, it will be permissible.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَأْكُلُوا۟ ٱلرِّبَوٰٓا۟ أَضْعَـٰفًا مُّضَـٰعَفَةً وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
