Question:

Is there anything in this dry shampoo spray that would make it impermissible to use? For instance, creating prevention from being able to do masah on your head for wudhu?

Also, can you explain the difference between applying gel and oil to the hair as some say masah is not done on hair/head that has gel on?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

This shampoo does contain alcohol however, it will still be permissible to use, this type of alcohol is found in most perfumes/shampoo and is derived from plants and is not intended for drinking, it is mentioned that any alcohol that is not derived from dates or grapes is permissible to use externally whereas any alcohol which is derived from dates or grapes cannot be consumed nor can it be used externally (perfume/shampoo).

The reason some say masah is not done on that hair with gel on it is that usually hair gel is very thick and can create a waterproof barrier on top of the hair thus when wiping the water doesn’t actually reach the hair instead you are wiping over the gel resulting in the masah not being done because you haven’t wiped over the hair.
