Answer:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuh,

The purpose of the hijab is to cover up the body so that it is not exposed in any way. Generally speaking, the Shariah has not restricted the use of colours over others, however, the Sunnah of the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) shows that he preferred a few colours over others.

White and black coloured clothing have been favoured by our Prophet (peace be upon him) and there are many ahadith to support this.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Wear your white garments, for they are among your best garments, and shroud your dead in them.”[1]

Sayyidatunā Umm Khalid (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that The Prophet (peace be upon him) was given some clothes including a black Khamisa. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "To whom shall we give this to wear?" The people kept silent whereupon the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Fetch Um Khalid for me." I (Um Khalid) was brought carried (as I was small girl at that time). The Prophet (peace be upon him) took the Khamisa in his hands and made me wear it and said, "May you live so long that your dress will wear out and you will mend it many times.[2]

We also see that the Shariah allows and encourages people to wear attractive and beautiful clothes, as long as they do not do so out of pride or arrogance.

Sayyiduna Amr bin Shu’ayb narrates that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:”Indeed Allah loves to see the results of his favors upon His slave.”[3]

Imam Ibn Abidin writes that “There is no objection in any colour of clothing for Hajj and Umrah.”[4]

And Allah SWT alone knows best.
