Salaam,

I was hoping you can help and advise on this matter. A woman suffering from discharge (daily feminal discharge, not period), is she permitted to place a tissue to stop her discharge to enable her to maintain wudu?

I understand there is a ruling that a "mazoor" woman is permitted to do this, but in a situation where she is mazoor at certain times and not mazoor at other times, is she permitted to continue to use this? For example, she is outside the home, attending madrasah etc. she needs to maintain her wudu, is she permitted to keep the tissue in place? Some advice and guidance would be appreciated.

Answer:

According to the dependable (mu’tamad) opinion of Imam Abu Hanifah, the normal white discharge which exits from a woman’s private parts is not impure. Any other color except the normal clear/white discharge is impure and will break the wudu.^[1]

If a woman has become ma’zoor, and she is able to stop the flow somehow so that she does not fall into the category of ma’zoor, it will be necessary to do this.^[2]

To block anything from exiting the vagina, a kursuf (cotton cloth, cotton wool, or something similar to it like tissue) can be used by placing it at the opening of the vagina i.e between the labia minora (farj al-kharij).

Whether a woman is ma’zoor or not, it is permitted for her to place a kursuf to stop the flow of the impurity, and the wudu will be broken with its removal. [^[3]]
