Question:
I know that synthetic hair extensions are allowed to be worn to enhance one’s own However, as we are prohibited from cutting a fringe can a synthetic hair extension one be worn?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
The act of having a fringe is not part of an Islamic custom, it is usually non-muslims, celebrities, etc who cut a fringe. Therefore, to avoid being like them it would be best not to cut a fringe. It is makruh to imitate non-muslims in their habits due to liking their ways and following them.
ويمكن ان تدخله الكراهة، إذا فعله المسلم اعجاباً بهم و تقليدًا بهم
(Muslim Mawatin Fi Uroba – Page 107)
The Prophet (s.a.w) has also prohibited us from imitating non-muslims:
مَنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِقَوْمٍ فَهُوَ مِنْهُمْ
The one who imitates any people, then he is from among them.
(Sunan Abi Dawood – hadith 4031)
Only Allah knows best.
