Question:
Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah
My grandmother built four flats with her money and gave each one to her four children (transferred it in their names). My mother and my aunt live in their respective flats with their families. My other aunt and my uncle have rented their flats. Is it valid as a gift? Is my mother the owner of her flat? Also, if my father is paying for the bills of the flat, is my mother still considered to be the owner of the flat?
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم
In the name of ALLAH the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Whoever your grandmother gifted the flat to will be considered the owner of that particular flat, irrespective of whether it has been rented afterwards or someone else is paying its bills.
And Allah SWT alone knows best.
