Question:
Can we have animals in our homes? I mean for decorating purposes like a peacock or a horse figurine?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
Having figures of animate objects such as animals in the home is Islamically detestable as it deprives the home of blessings and angelic presence.
The Prophet Muḥammad (peace and blessing be upon him) said, “Angels [of mercy] do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture [of animated beings].” – (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2106)1
“Jābir narrated that the Messenger of Allāh (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited having images [of animated beings] in the house, and he prohibited making them.” – (Tirmidhī 1749)2
