Question:

I would like to ask that when a woman is on haidh and her habit is of 7 days but the next month she comes on haidh for 9 days will days 8 and 9 of this month be classed as istihadha and therefore the month after this her habit will change to 9 . Or those 9 days will be classed as haidh and there would be no istihdha as it is in the ten days.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

In Bewishti Zewal (pg 65-66) it says: A woman used to bleed for three or four days every month. Thereafter, in a particular month, she bled for more than her normal period but not more than ten days. All the days that she bled will be haid. But if she bled for more than ten days, then all the days which are more than her normal period will be regarded as istihaada. For example, a woman always had a habit of bleeding for three days. However, in a particular month, she bled for nine days or ten days and ten nights. All these days will be regarded as haid. But if she bled for even a moment more than ten days and ten nights, then her first three days are haid and the balance of the days will be regarded as istihaada. It will be wajib for her to make qada of her salaat for the balance of these days.

Fluctuations in your habitual days are no cause for concern. All the days will be part of your menstruating cycle unless they exceed 10 days. Only after bleeding has continued for 10 days or more will a woman then fall under the rulings of Istihaada.
