Question:

If you wash impure clothes with a menstruation spot visible on it and you have not removed it but it becomes dry and then you place it with pure clothes in the washing machine, will it make other clothes impure? and if you dry them in the dryer what do you have to do now? and if you don’t know about which clothes you had put in, or the bedsheets you had put in then what do you have to do? please tell me as I am getting anxiety attacks.

Answer:

If the Najaasah on the clothes can be seen (e.g., blood), then it should be washed until the impurity is gone (Fatawa Hindiyah, Vol 1, Pg 46)

When clothes are put into the washing machine, they usually come out pure and clean after the wash. The impurity does not remain; nor does it spread onto the other clothes. Therefore, if you wash impure clothes (e.g., clothes with spots of blood) with pure clothes in one washing machine, all the clothes will be pure after the wash.

وَإِزَالَتُهَا إنْ كَانَتْ مَرْئِيَّةً بِإِزَالَةِ عَيْنِهَا وَأَثَرِهَا إنْ كَانَتْ شَيْئًا يَزُولُ أَثَرُهُ وَلَا يُعْتَبَرُ فِيهِ الْعَدَدُ. كَذَا فِي الْمُحِيطِ فَلَوْ زَالَتْ عَيْنُهَا بِمَرَّةٍ اكْتَفَى بِهَا وَلَوْ لَمْ تَزُلْ بِثَلَاثَةٍ تُغْسَلُ إلَى أَنْ تَزُولَ، كَذَا فِي السِّرَاجِيَّةِ. وَإِنْ كَانَتْ شَيْئًا لَا يَزُولُ أَثَرُهُ إلَّا بِمَشَقَّةٍ بِأَنْ يُحْتَاجَ فِي إزَالَتِهِ إلَى شَيْءٍ آخَرَ سِوَى الْمَاءِ كَالصَّابُونِ لَا يُكَلَّفُ بِإِزَالَتِهِ. هَكَذَا فِي التَّبْيِينِ
