Question:
Assalamu Alaikum.
I’m residing in the USA. My husband in extreme anger says: “Go, I divorce you, divorce, divorce, Divorce,” 3 times in one go. Later he said I gave only one Divorce and to support his claim he showed me the former Imam e Kaaba Sheikh Abdul Aziz fatwa book which says it’s only One. I also asked Fatwa from famous MUFTI MUNEEB UR REHMAN in Pakistan about my issue and he said “There is SPACE TO GO BACK. IT’S ONE DIVORCE.”
So I want a fatwa from you as well in writing about my issue with my name and my husband’s name as well. What’s your verdict on this matter? My name is (removed) and my husband’s name is (removed).

Answer:
Wa alaikumus salaam
Talaq that is given 3 times will be considered as 3. This is the ruling of the ulama from the time of the Sahaba. Unfortunately, today due to a lack of understanding or taking divorce lightly, some people give the wrong ruling.
You should take your knowledge from reliable scholars and from reputable institutions. Based on the Quran and the Ahadith, there is a consensus from the ulama that 3 talaqs issued in one sitting will constitute 3.
Therefore your nikah is over with him and you are a stranger to him until you get married to someone else which is known as Halalah.

فَإِنْ طَلَّقَهَا فَلَا تَحِلُّ لَهُ مِنْ بَعْدُ حَتَّى تَنْكِحَ زَوْجًا غَيْرَهُ فَإِنْ طَلَّقَهَا فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِمَا أَنْ يَتَرَاجَعَا إِنْ ظَنَّا أَنْ يُقِيمَا حُدُودَ اللَّهِ
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ رَجُلاً، طَلَّقَ امْرَأَتَهُ ثَلاَثًا، فَتَزَوَّجَتْ فَطَلَّقَ فَسُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَتَحِلُّ لِلأَوَّلِ قَالَ “ لاَ، حَتَّى يَذُوقَ عُسَيْلَتَهَا كَمَا ذَاقَ الأَوَّلُ ”

وإن كان الطلاق ثلاثا في الحرة وثنتين في الأمة لم تحل له حتى تنكح زوجا غيره نكاحا صحيحا ويدخل بها ثم يطلقها أو يموت عنها كذا في الهداية ولا فرق في ذلك بين كون المطلقة مدخولا بها أو غير مدخول بها كذا في فتح القدير ويشترط أن يكون الإيلاج موجبا للغسل وهو التقاء الختانين هكذا في العيني شرح الكنز أما الإنزال فليس بشرط للإحلال
