Question:

Assalaamu Alaikum. I performed Umrah with my wife, daughter and son aged 11 years. After tawaf, we all couldn’t complete the Sai and we went back to the hotel and went to sleep. Then on the next day, me and my wife completed the sai but our daughter and son didn’t complete it, and then we came back home. I would like to know if our Umrah is valid and what is the compensation we have to pay for each of us. Jazakallahu Khairan.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Answer:

Wa alaykum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

For you and your wife, although it is preferable to avoid delaying the Sa’i without reason, your Umrah is valid and no compensation will be required [1].

However, should your children have reached the age of maturity [2], you will be required to pay Dam (a small animal such as a sheep or goat or one-seventh of a large animal such as a camel or cow to be sacrificed in the Haram [3]) on behalf of each for failing to perform a key ritual of Umrah, after which their Umrahs will be deemed valid [4].

Only Allah knows best.
