Question:

Assalamu alaykum, I am confused about a matter. Frequently, I hear from muslims that we should not worry about our provision and to ‘trust the plan of Allah’ and ‘having a good opinion of Allah’ . I understand that if Allah has decreed something there is no doubt that it will occur and if something has not been decreed then it will never occur and that we have an appointed time where we will die.

However, I don’t understand how this is supposed to make us feel comfortable because we do not know what Allah has specifically decreed for us and and when our appointed time is. I’m hoping you could clarify and correct my understanding if I have misunderstood something, JazakAllah khair.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

The seeking of halaal risq is the next Fardh duty after the Fardh Salaah. This is so that one can attain the tranquillity of heart to worship Allah and not become a burden upon others for one’s basic necessities. So certainly there should be enough concern to make efforts to attain one’s risq.

This is a world of asbaab / means , and it is essential to make use of the means intelligently. Thus one should acquire the knowledge and  skills needed for whichever avenue one intends to pursue, whether  one’s worldly life or Aakhirah , so that one may  attain the maximum benefits from one’s efforts.

The goal for success in Aakhirah  obligates us  to obey  the Commands of Allah and abstain from His Prohibitions. Thus we should make the correct every day choices that attain the Pleasure and Love of Allah.

However once one has put in the required effort, one should trust Allah regarding the results.

One should not become unduly perturbed or grieved at some temporary setback. At times Allah may be redirecting one to a better path for greater  benefit  , or protecting one from long term harm. Only after time , it becomes clear that there was great benefit in the temporary setback which one may have encountered.

There is great wisdom in the decisions of Allah.  One attains a sense of peace when one hands over the future to Allah and  accepts the decrees  of Allah , no matter what it brings or does not bring.

The Wisdom of Allah is always best for one’s  long term benefit in both worlds.
