Question:

Salam, my question is that if halal meat is cut with a utensil that first cuts haram meat, does the halal meat become haram to consume by a Muslim?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

If a utensil, such as a knife, has cut haram meat, it does not make the next item it cuts, haram to consume—provided that the knife is properly cleansed before use. This is because solid surfaces do not absorb the impurity therefore are clean. It is necessary to ensure that the utensils are cleaned thoroughly and that no traces of the haram meat remain. [1]

The meat itself would be considered unlawful to consume due to the possibility of traces of haram meat being present through the contamination of the utensil. It is best to stay away from places that serve haram meat due to possible cross-contamination. [2]

Hasan ibn Ali reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Leave what makes you doubt for what does not make you doubt. Verily, truth brings peace of mind and falsehood sows doubt.” [3]
