Question – when we cut our nails, I heard that there is a sunnah way of doing this, like starting with a particular finger or hand.
Can you provide me with more information please?

Answer
There is a difference of opinion of the scholars with regards to the sequence of clipping nails. The majority of the Jurists are of the view that it is not Mustahab to observe any particular sequence in clipping ones nails. However it is recommended that one should start from the right hand. Aisha (radi allahu anha) narrates that the Prophet used to like to start from the right side on wearing shoes, combing his hair and cleaning or washing himself and on doing anything else. (Sahih Bukhari: 1.169). As the index finger has virtue over the others the sequence should start from that finger and then move towards the right.
In Taleemul Haq it is stated that the recommended sequence is that to start with the index finger of the right hand and then move towards the small finger in order. Thereafter continue with the small finger of the left hand and then move towards the thumb in sequence. Finally finish with the thumb of the right hand.
Only Allah knows best.
