Question:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

Dear brother, when our musalla (prayer rug), cap (Tupi) and clothing's used for prayer are broken, how we have to destroy them.

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم

In the name of ALLAH the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Umar ibn al-Khattab (r.a) ordered the cutting of the tree under which the pledge of allegiance was taken by the prophet. During Umar's caliphate, people would go to the Ridhwan tree and perform prayer beside it. Upon being informed about what people were doing at the Ridhwan tree, Umar (r.a) first issued a stern warning, and then he gave the order that the tree should be cut down; and shortly thereafter, his order was carried out.

This indicates that things which are used for good purposes do not carry sanctity, divinity. Therefore, prayer mat or cap (Tupi) can be disposed of in any good manner as well as it should not go against your local authority's policy.
