Question:

Mufti Sahab AssalamoAlaikum.   I would like to ask you about namaaz one masla, I am working in Abu Dhabi, how many person required to have jamat for salah because some people here joining other person while he already start his salah, is it permissible to join him to make jamat in the middle of salah with him or I have to pray separately. But some people are joining me some time while I am alone praying even I start my sunnat salah.

Answer:

Bismillah

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

There are two issues to your question.

The first is whether someone can pray Salah behind you even though you did not make an intention of leading the prayer and secondly whether someone can follow you when you are praying your sunnahs.

Regarding the first issue, it is permissible for someone to pray behind you as a follower as long as you are praying the fardh prayer. It is not necessary to make an intention beforehand of being an Imam for someone afterwards to follow and pray behind you. (Raddul Muhtar p.98 v.2)

Regarding the second issue, if you are praying sunnah or nafl prayer then it is not permissible for anyone to pray fardh salah behind you. In such a situation, you should continue praying your sunnah and nafl as normal without raising your voice for the Takbeers and for Tasmee. (Raddul Muhtar p.324 v.2)
