Answer:
Firstly Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "All intoxicants are prohibited."[1]
Due to the above Hadith, the smoking of marijuana is haram along with it being illegal and therefore needs to be avoided.
Smoking of marijuana or any other drugs will make the person sinful and sincere repentance will need to be done.
- Ghusl will not be compulsory by the mere smoking of marijuana.
- It is narrated by Abdullah Ibn Abbas: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Every intoxicant is khamr and every intoxicant is forbidden. If anyone consumes intoxicants, Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. If he repeats it a fourth time, it is binding on Allah that He will give him tinat al-khabal to drink. He was asked: What is tinat al-khabal, Messenger of Allah? He replied: Discharge of wounds, flowing from the inhabitants of Hell. If anyone serves it to a minor who does not distinguish between the lawful and the unlawful, it is binding on Allah that He will give him to drink the discharge of wounds, flowing from the inhabitants of Hell.[2]
From the above Hadith, we understand that any intoxicant that it consumed will result in the consumer’s prayer not being accepted for forty days.
The scholars have explained that the prayer remains compulsory upon the person and by performing it he/she will be relieved of their duty of completing the prayer, however, the person will not receive any reward from their prayer until sincere tawbah (repentance) is made.[3]If the prayer is not completed the person will be liable to punishment from Allah.
