Question:

When one’s mother passes away, does the inheritance go among all siblings (male and female) equally or do the brothers get twice the amount of their sisters?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Yes, the brothers get twice the amount of their sisters.

In the event that a man or woman passes away and leaves behind both male and female children, the male inherits the part of the two females since Allah SWT mentions:

يُوۡصِيۡكُمُ اللّٰهُ فِىۡۤ اَوۡلَادِكُمۡ لِلذَّكَرِ مِثۡلُ حَظِّ الۡاُنۡثَيَيۡنِ​

As for your children’s (inheritance), Allah commanded you to give the male a share equal to that of two females. [Surah Nisaa’ verse 4]
