Question
If a person says to Allah, 'I will do this or 'I will do that'. But he/she did not use the word 'promise' nor did he/she intend to make any promise. In this case, if he/she does not do the action, will he/she be sinning?
In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
Answer
A promise is one thing and an agreement is another thing, however, a person must strive to keep both. You did not make a promise, however, you still gave your word to Allah( s.w.t.), going against your word is also wrong, but if you tried your best then afterward failed to achieve your goal then we hope inshAllah there is no sin upon you. In the future, only say such things if you fully intend to carry them out.
