Question

Is it permissible to make masah with new water? I have heard that making masah has to be done with new water and that the same hand used for masah cannot be used to close the tap. Is this to be done by another hand? So is my wudu valid if I have been performing Masah by wetting my hands under the tap, and then closing the tap with one of the wetted hands? I then pass both wet hands over the head. Is this method of masah correct and valid?

Answer:

It is correct that masah should be performed with new water. However, once you have completed the masah, you may use the same hand to close the tap, as this does not affect the validity of your wudu.

The key ruling here is that the water used for masah must not be the same water that was previously used to wash another limb, such as the arms or feet. If your hands are wet after washing your arms during wudu, you cannot use that residual water for masah. Instead, you must wet your hands with fresh water before performing masah.

Your method of wetting your hands under the tap, closing the tap with a wet hand, and then performing masah is valid, as long as the water used for masah is new and not from a previously washed limb.
