Question:

If one remembers having a wet dream but is having doubts whether there was discharge or not upon waking up. Should ghusl be done?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

We can find the answer in a narration of A’isha (may Allah be pleased with her):

A question was posed to our beloved prophet (SAW) about a man who senses some moisture but does not recall having a wet dream. “He should perform ghusl,” he remarked. He was questioned about a man who believes he had an amorous dream but sees no moisture. “He doesn’t have to do ghusl,” he remarked. “O Messenger of Allaah, does a lady have to do ghusl if she sees anything like that?” Umm Salamah asked. “Yes, women are men’s twin half,” he added.

So if no moisture is seen, then ghusl does not need to be performed and vice versa. And whether you are doubtful or not it’s a personal thing when you consider you have the mental power above any other person relating to the knowledge of your wet dream (and if you discharged or not etc.)

The sacred law of legal maxim states:

“Certainty is not removed away by mere doubt”.

Only Allah knows best.
