Question:
I hope you’re well. I was wondering whether you’ve come across any ibaarat which states that the Eid salaah and khutbah should be muttasil?
The reason why I’m asking is that I’ve heard both views. Some ulama mentioning to do dua after salaah and some saying to start khutbah straight after salaah.

Answer:
Abdullah bin Sa’ib RA said: I attended the Eid prayer with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. He led us in offering the Eid prayer, then He said: “I have finished the prayer. Whoever wants to sit (and listen to) the sermon, then let him sit, and whoever wants to leave, then let him leave.” [Sunan Ibn Mājah: Hadith 1290] [1]
Abu Ubaid reported: I was with Ali bin Abi Talib RA on the occasion of the Eid day. He started with the Eid prayer before delivering the sermon and said: Allāh’s Messenger ﷺ forbade us to eat the flesh of our sacrificial animals beyond three days. [Sahih Muslim: Hadith 1969] [2]
‘Ata said: I heard Ibn Abbas RA say: “I bear witness that I attended Eid with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ; He started with the prayer before the Khutbah, then he delivered the Khutbah.” [Sunan an-Nasā‘i: Hadith 1569] [3]
From the first Hadith, we can see that there was a minute delay to the Prophet ﷺ starting His Khutbah by initially addressing the attendees and granting leave to those who needed to leave. A separate Dua at the conclusion of the Salah is not mandatory. However, based on the above, if someone chooses to do so then that would be permissible. Moreover, it should also be noted that a Dua is normally also done within the second portion of the Khutbah.
Only Allāh Ta’ālā knows best.
