Is it permissible to read duas for wudhu when the toilet is in the same room?
In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.
Answer
The Prophet of Allah Sallalahu Alahi Wasalam has taught us many duas through various ahadith, which should be recited in different times and places throughout the day.
When sitting down to make wudhu say “bismillah” and recite:
ALLAHUMAG FIRLI ZANBI WAWASILI FI DARI WA BARIK LI FI AMRI
Translation: “O Allah forgive my sins. Make my home accommodating and grant me abundance in my livelihood.”
On completing the WuDu the following should be read whilst looking towards the sky:
“ASHADU ALLAH ILAHA WAHDAHU LA SHAREKA LAHU WASHADU ANA MUHAMMAD ABDUHU WA RASULUH”
Then recite “ALLAHUMAJ ALANI MINA TAWABEENA WAJ ALNI MINAL MUTATAHREEN”
“O Allah! Make me of the repenters and make me of the purified.” (Hisnul Haseen p.78 – p.79)
Hazrat Maulana Khalid Saifullah in his Kitabul Fatawa has said that if between the toilet nad sink there is some sort of barrier or partition, then the bathroom will be considered as two different places, hence it will be permissible to read the dua of wudu in the bathroom. Furthermore, Hazrat quoting a passing from Allahmah Ibn Abideen Shami’s (RA) Raddul Muhtar (p.557 v.1) has said that if the toilet area is clean and purified from any filth then it will be permissible to read such duas verbally. However, one can read it silently in his heart if he wishes. (p. 43 v.2)
