Question:

My sister has 6 kids and she's a very pious person. She would have wonderful dreams pertaining to Islam. Whenever she prays for us, masallah by Allah's grace, it will be granted. What dua can she make so that she has enough water for her, her 6 kids and her husband? The area where she lives is always short of water and she gets water only on alternate days and this is insufficient to manage her household needs. Please help my sister with a prayer that she can make so that there is constant water in her home.

Answer:

Bismillah

The prayer for seeking rain in Arabic is called Salatul Istisqaa. In the Hanafi Fiqh, Istisqaa is primarily a supplication and seeking forgiveness. However, voluntary prayer is also allowed to seek rain from Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) (Mukhtasar Quduuri p.34)

Your sister could read the following dua:

Shurahbil Ibn as-Simt said to Ka'b ibn Murrah raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him): “O Ka’b, relate to us something from the Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him).” Ka’b said: “When a man came and said to the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam, ‘Seek rain for the tribe of Mudhar,’ I heard the Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) say: ‘You are a bold man. You want me to seek rain for the tribe of Mudhar?’ The man said: ‘O Prophet of Allah, you have sought victory from Allah and He gave you victory. You supplicated to Allah and He answered you.’ The Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) raised his hands and said: 'O Allah, give us a saving rain, good and productive, general and heavy, now and not later, beneficial and not harmful.' Allah responded to his supplication. It was not long before the people came complaining about the profusion of rain, and damage to their dwellings. The Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam raised his hands and said: 'O Allah, around us and not upon us.' The clouds began dispersing left and right." (Sunan Abu Dawuud, Sunan Ibn Majah & Musnad Ahmad)
