Question:

In one of your answers, you said a hanafi should avoid eating at restaurants that serve crabs and lobsters. So I want to ask by this do mean it is makruh to eat at such restaurants although you won’t eat the crabs or lobsters, or is it haram to eat at such restaurants?

Answer:

The answer you received was to adopt the cautious stand. Although the consumption of seafood’s is makruh tahrimi, but it is not considered to be impure(najis), hence no fear of cross contamination.

«التجريد للقدوري» (12/ 6368):

«- قلنا: ‌التذكية ‌تقتضي ‌الطهارة ولا تقتضي إباحة الأكل عندنا، وهذا الحيوان جميعه طاهر»
