Question:

I am working at a private company. It provides health insurance for me but for adding my parents into this insurance, they provide 30,000 points on a platform. These points can’t be directly converted into money. These points may be used for adding my parents into this insurance or for few other purposes like buying gym membership, flight tickets, buying vehicle insurance, etc. Can I enrol my parents using these points?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

If these points are given entirely on behalf of the company and does not involve the paying of a premium or a reduction in salary—whether weekly, monthly or yearly—then it will be permissible for you to enrol you parents into the health insurance and have them benefit from it.[1]

As for the other options mentioned such as gym membership, flight tickets etc., then these options will be permissible irrespective.

Only Allah knows best.
