Question:

A few questions regarding fardh ghusl whilst fasting:

1 – Washing the nose and mouth. I know you can’t take water to the back of the throat and the top of the nose. However, at Iftar time will this need to be repeated or would it be sufficient as to what was done in the initial ghusl?

2 – In ghusl, I normally wash the inside of the ears. If I do this whilst fasting is this okay, or will my fast break? I do the inside of the ears to ensure the body is wet

General questions with regards to ghusl:

1 – I understand that you only pour water 3 times over the head, right shoulder and left shoulder and rub the whole body. I am unable to do this and ensure the entire body eg legs, back of legs thighs, armpits, behind anus etc get wet. I end up pouring water over these limbs in addition is this okay to ensure the whole body is wet and not a single hair is left dry?

2 – How long should a ghusl take (as it takes me far too long) Jazak Allah Khair

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

The gargling and rinsing of the nose do not need to be repeated after Iftar. Just rinsing the mouth and the nose without exaggeration will suffice during the fast. (1)

Rinsing the ears will not invalidate the fast either. (2)

It is best that we use enough water in moderation to ensure that the entire body is wet and shouldn’t be extravagant and wasteful. (3)

The perfect time (duration) would differ from person to person.

Only Allah knows best.
