Question:

Salaam,
This has happened on a few occasions where I am going down in sujood and I feel something come out of my back passage. However, it is not wind as there is no sound or smell, it’s just a feeling but I know something has come out. Does this break my wudu? There are times when I have thought that they are doubts as I do suffer from continuous doubts every day, so I ignore them, so I just wanted to know, because I carried on when this happened with the back passage, are my prayers still valid with this wudu as I haven’t redone my wudu? As these bubble feelings are constant.
Please could you help me with this? I feel like I am losing my mind over this and it is stressing me out.
Jazak’allah.

Answer

In the Hanafi Fiqh, wudu is only invalidated by clear and definitive signs of something exiting from the body’s private parts. In cases like yours, where you experience doubts about the validity of your wudu but there’s no clear sign that wudu has been broken (like the sound or smell of wind), many scholars suggest that you should not let doubts overwhelm you. If you constantly experience this sensation but there is no clear evidence of anything invalidating your wudu, then your prayers are still valid, and you do not need to repeat your wudu.

Islam teaches us not to overburden ourselves with excessive doubts or waswasa (whisperings of doubt), especially if these doubts are recurring and you have a condition where they are constant. In such cases, you are advised to ignore the doubts and proceed with your prayers. Allah (SWT) does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear, and your sincere intention and effort are what matter most.

Since you’ve mentioned that these “bubble” feelings are constant and that you suffer from continuous doubts, it is important to try to not let these doubts disrupt your ibadah (worship).

In conclusion:

  • If there is no clear sign (sound, smell, or anything tangible) of wudu being broken, you should proceed with your prayer.
  • If you suffer from recurring doubts and feelings, it is permissible to ignore them, and your prayers will be valid.

I hope that this answers the question.
