Question:

If you are a muqtadi and you began Salah and you see a gap in front of you, should you go forward to fill in the gap? (Your already in Salah when you see the gap). If so what is the proper way to move forward or to the side.

Answer:

The method of filling the Saff in front of you (whilst you are in Salaah) is waiting a short while so that a latecomer can fill the gap. If no one fills it or it’s not possible for anyone to fill it, one will be allowed to take two standard steps to fill the Saff. If two steps cannot be taken to fill the gap in front, one should take as many steps necessary with a pause of a Rukn after every step, so that he does not invalidate his Salaah through Amal-E-Katheer.
