Question:
I forgot to do Qunoot in Witr and went to bow. Realizing my mistake once I had reached the bowing position, I instinctively went halfway back up to standing and then realized I should carry on so then varied between the two positions and then carried on as normal. I then made forgetfulness prostrations. I did not pause for more than how long it would take to say “Subhan Allah” three times. Is this salah valid?

Answer:
- If qunoot was forgotten and in bowing position or anywhere after, it was remembered that qunoot was missed, then sajda sahwa will suffice.1
- If before going to ruku one realized that he forgot qunoot then one can remain to stand and do qunoot. Sajda sahwa is not required.
- If it was remembered in ruku that he forgot qunoot then continue as normal, don’t return back to do qunoot, and do sajda sahwa at the end.
- If qunoot was forgotten and no sajdah sahwa was done, then witr must be repeated.2
