Question:

Have you brothers come across this before, and is it permissible?

Getting a FREE ‘gift’ for giving your Zakaat? Looks like One Ummah Charity are behind it.

This free gift obviously would incentivise one to give their Zakaat here and get something in return, wouldn’t that spoil the Zakaat?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Thank you for your question. The Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Actions are according to their intentions and every person will get what they intended” (Bukhari:1)

Zakaat is an act of worship and must be given solely for the sake of Allah. If a person gives Zakaat with the intention of receiving a gift in return, it compromises sincerity and can invalidate the obligation.

To answer your question, so long as the person is paying their zakaat with the intention to fulfil an Islamic obligation, and not for the freebies, their zakaat will not be spoilt.
