Question

I wanted to confirm when one gives da'wah to a friend to any good deed, let's say Umrah for example – 2 years later he performs Umrah, the person who encouraged him does he get a SHARE of the reward or the ENTIRE reward just like the brother who performed the Umrah?

This is something, that generally motivates me for our gasht programs that take place every weekend!

Answer

  1. Once a person came to the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked for an animal for riding, so the prophet replied he does not have any.  A man from the crowd said I know who can provide him with an animal for riding.  Thereupon the Prophet said, “Whoever directs one to a good deed, then he will receive the same reward as the doer of the deed.”  (Narrated by Muslim)

Mullah Ali Qari comments on the above hadith and says: ‘whoever directs’ i.e. by word, action, writing or by the gesture. ‘A good deed’ meaning a branch of knowledge or any action which has a reward in it.  ‘He will have the same reward as the doer’ meaning the reward will not be deducted from the person who directed to the good deed. (Mirqat, Vol.1, pg.291, hadith no.209, Darul Fikr.)
