Question:

Asalamualaikum

I was once saying something to Allah about marriage.

Maybe I was saying that I do not have any problem in getting married.

So I will get married.

I do not remember what I said exactly, But it might have been a statement like, 'I will get married.' But I did not use the word 'promise', 'vow' or 'by Allah'.

I also did not have any intention of sharing my thoughts with Allah.

Did I make a promise to get married?

Answer:

Walaikumusalam

Your speech in question did not constitute a promise or an oath will Allah. Imam Kasani explains as such, he says:

“The first principle of an oath is the word used to initiate a promise with Allah.”[1]

Since you have not used the word it will not be considered an oath.
